Club Rules

On Ice
  • Skates must be worn on the ice. Coaches and skaters are not permitted to walk on the ice wearing shoes of any kind.
  • Jeans/shorts/denium-cut pants/bare midriffs are not considered acceptable skating attire (unless the costume is part of an ice show). Skaters on the Junior and above session wearing jeans will not be allowed to skate.
  • No hats or hoods will be allowed on any of the Intermediate and higher sessions. Young junior skaters who are cold and wearing snug fitting hats will be acceptable.
  • Boys cannot wear sleeveless shirts.
  • Girls cannot wear tank tops, tube tops, or tops with a revealing neckline or have their midriff showing.
  • No clothing with offensive language or images will be allowed. 
  • Skating dresses, skating skirts, yoga pants are permitted for girls.
  • Girls with long hair must have it tied back neatly.
  • Eating, drinking (except bottled water) and gum chewing is not permitted on the ice.
  • Foul language or inappropriate behaviour on or off the ice will be tolerated.
Off Ice
  • Defacing of club/arena property is prohibited and will result in loss of skating privileges.
  • Please help keep the viewing area, dressing rooms and washrooms clean.
  • Only designated music operators and professional coaches are permitted to use the music equipment.
  • Spectators, including parents of skaters, may watch from the seating area--not by the boards--and must refrain from conversing with or offering directions to skaters on the ice.
  • Skate guards should be worn off ice at all times.
  • Parents, skaters and coaches are not permitted to use the facilities of the Community Centre unless by permit. This includes change rooms and washrooms.
  • Coaching of skaters takes place on the ice only. Coaching from the stands or behind the boards is not permitted.
Test Day Attire
  • Boots must be polished and clean.
  • Laces must be washed, clean and tied neatly around the hooks or tucked into the boot.
  • Sweaters may be worn during warm up but not for the actual dance or solo freeskate test. Sweaters may be worn for the freeskate elements test.
  • No gloves or mitts permitted during the test unless part of the skating costume. Gloves or mitts may be worn during the freeskate elements test.
  • No patterned or dark coloured tights are permitted. Girls must wear beige coloured skating tights either tucked into the boot or covering the boot.
  • No tights with holes or runs will be permitted.
Safety
  • CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory for all CanSkate skaters.
  • Skaters must not go on the ice until their session begins.
  • Doors leading to the ice surface are to be kept closed and latched.
  • Parents of skaters 10 and under must remain on the premises for their child's entire session.
  • Skaters must not use the benches in the viewing area to put on or take off skates. Please use the change rooms.
