Upper Canada Skating Club

Celebrating 60 years of skating!

Upper Canada Challenge

Every year, Upper Canada holds two club competitions.

  • The Club Competition is for skaters who have passed out of CanSkate and are working on the different test levels of STARSkate, in both Freeskate and Dance disiplines. For freeskate, skaters skate to music of their choice, the length of which is determined by the level that they're competing in and has been choreographed by the skater's private coach and includes elements (jumps, spins, footwork and field movements) that correspond to the skater's text level. Professional judges are brought in to judge the skaters competing. This competition is usually held in February, please refer to Important Dates or the bulletin board in the arena or speak with your child/ren's private coach for more information.

2009 Club Competition:

  • The other competiton Upper Canada holds is called the CanSkate and Junior Challenge. As the name implies this competition geared for CanSkaters in stages (levels) 5, 6 and 7 and for those skaters who have recently passed out of CanSkate and is their first year skating on the Junior session. In the CanSkate part of the challenge, skaters in the specified stages perform certain elements in their levels to the best of their ability and are judged based on their performance. For those doing the Junior part of the challenge, the club provides music for their solos (one minute in length) which is choreographed by the skater's private coach, the elements of which are provided by Upper Canada. These competitions are fun and have a more relaxed environment and is usually the first competition skaters enter into. This competition is usually held in February, please refer to Important Dates or the bulletin board in the arena or speak with your child/ren's private/group coach for more information.
