Club Rules & Regulations

Rules are put into place for the safety and protection of all our members. Please take the time to review these rules and regulations with your skaters.

The following Club Rules & Regulations apply to all Upper Canada Skaters, Board Members, Coaches, Staff & Parents/Guardians while on the premises of Mitchell Field Arena & Community Centre. Where applicable, these Rules & Regulations are also applied to other location/premise that our programs are being offered.

Gear and Attire

  1. Skates must be worn on the ice. Coaches, skaters and parents are not permitted to walk on the ice wearing shoes of any kind.
  2. CSA approved helmets are mandatory for skaters in the Pre-CanSkate and CanSkate (Stage 1-5) programs and Teen/Adult Learn to Skate session. Helmets are optional for skaters in stage 6. Hockey helmets with face mask (cage) with chin straps are mandatory for skaters ages 3 & 4 are recommended for young skaters and skaters with glasses.
  3. Corrective eyewear (where applicable) must always be worn on the ice.
  4. Please avoid wearing scarves and hats on the ice. Snug-fitting hats for skaters who are cold will be acceptable.
  5. Skaters with hair longer than chin length must wear their hair tied back.
  6. Practice wear should be comfortable and form-fitting, allowing for easy movement and good visibility for your coach. Skating dresses, skirts and yoga pants are permitted. Proper skating tights must be paired with dresses or appropriate bottomwear.
  7. The following types of attire will not be allowed on the ice unless the costume is part of an ice show:
    • Jeans/shorts/denim-cut pants
    • Sleeveless shirts, tank tops, tube tops, low-cut necklines, bare midriffs
    • Clothing with offensive language or images
    • Props and accessories

Coaching

  1. Skaters who skate on the STAR 3+ and Adult STARSkate sessions MUST hire a coach for a minimum of 15 minutes on each skating day.
  2. Parents are not allowed to coach or instruct from the boards.

On-Ice Conduct

  1. Skaters and guests must have registered and paid their fees prior to stepping on the ice. Failure to do so will result in immediate removal from the rink.
  2. All skaters must be aware of what is going on around them at all times and who has the right of way.
  3. Eating, drinking (except bottled water) and chewing gum is not permitted.
  4. Foul language or inappropriate behaviour by skaters/parents/coaches on the ice or elsewhere will not be tolerated. Please refer to the Skate Canada Code of Ethics for more information.
  5. Skaters are not permitted to go on the ice unless a coach is on the ice or a board member is present.
  6. Doors leading to the ice surface are to be kept closed and latched at all times.
  7. All skaters and coaches will leave the ice as soon as the Zamboni passes the arena doors. Please pay attention to the end time of your session and exit the ice promptly to ensure that all sessions run on schedule.

Music

  1. Coaches requesting music have priority. Please don’t abuse this privilege.
  2. The skater whose music is being played has the right of way. All skaters must be aware of what is going on around them at all times, whether or not their music is being played.
  3. Choreography must be done using a portable device and not through the general music system.
  4. The use of headphones, earbuds or earphones is not allowed on the ice.
  5. Only designated music operators, board members and professional coaches are permitted to use the sound equipment.

Off-Ice Conduct

  1. Skate guards must be worn off the ice at all times.
  2. Skaters/parents must use the designated change rooms to put on or take off skates. Changing of skates in the viewing area or anywhere else in the community centre is strictly prohibited.
  3. Parents of skaters 10 years and under (CanSkate or STARSkate) must remain on the premises during their child’s entire session.
  4. Please help keep the viewing area, dressing rooms and washrooms clean.
  5. Defacing of club/arena property is prohibited and will result in the loss of skating privileges.
