Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about!

STARSkate (Skaters in this program must have passed CanSkate Stage 6 or equivalent. Skaters may be any age)

STARSkate is Skate Canada’s Figure Skating program following CanSkate.

STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate, artistic and synchronized skating. Unique in Canada, this program is offered in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner. Skaters in the STAR 1-5 and STAR 6-gold programs have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Assessments through a nationally standardized assessment system as well as compete at STAR 1 - 4 Series or Provincial Series for STAR 5 and up.

The STARSkate program consists of figure skating skills in five disciplines – Skating Skills, Ice Dance, Free Skate, Artistc and Synchronized Skating. Each discipline is divided into the STAR 1-5 and STAR 6-Gold levels. Skaters who have successfully completed the STAR 1- 5 program  will have the choice of either continuing on in the STAR program in one or more disciplines and start working on STAR 6 – GOLD or they may enter on to the Podium Pathway. (Skate Canada’s Competitive Program).

STAR 1 - 5 is designed to introduce skaters of all ages to the 5 disciplines in figure skating. Skaters will learn the basics for each discipline that will serve as a foundation for continued growth in all areas of figure skating. The disciplines are: Skills, Freeskate, Dance, Artistic and Synchronized skating.

STAR 6 - Gold is an assessment and event structure for skaters who completed the STAR 1-5 Program. This structure builds on the skills acquired in STAR 1-5 and introduces skaters to more advanced figure skating elements.
